I first became interested in art made from recycled materials when I took a Fiber Class at Long Beach State. The Weaving Class I took that semester taught us how to take paper bags and weave them into a viable type of twine. Creating art using recycled materials allows me to feel really good environmentally.
It seemed ironic to me that I was asked to participate in a show for Earth Day and was the only artist who submitted pieces made of natural materials. I love to paint, however most paints are not so environmentally friendly. I try to use things I already have or find along the way. For example the photo above was my first piece called, “Miss Betty”. She is made from paper bags, sheets of paper from my 5 other classes that semester, as well as Student Loan documents, tea bag from Trader Joe’s, and other various items that were a part of my life at that time.
I continue to make unique art and green art for those who would like to leave less of a carbon footprint. Many of my ceramic pieces only use clay and stains. I really like working on custom made artwork and am good at recreating images.
Please feel free to leave a comment and/or visit my site. There is some artwork there now and I will be adding more photos today. I am also happy to support my fellow friends here and give feedback for anyone who wants it. This can be a great way to work together….I wish us all much success!
